The Theory of Evolution

Since starting this blog I have come to realize how much pictures put a perspective on things. How much they jog your memory and flesh out your life. How they capture a moment that otherwise would be lost and forgotten. How they bring out all kinds of reflections of who you were then and who you are now. Sometimes there is a significant change and sometimes not. I rememeber when these two photos were taken and who took them. I love the two subjects and so much has changed since the pictures were taken. I like imagining myself back at that moment and not knowing the future. It's fun to re-trace your footsteps and think what and where you would be if you had done something different. Once again...the possibilities are endless.

Something else for me that ties together past, present and future while recalling the paths joining them: coffee.

Looking down into a cup of coffee to me is like looking into my past. Every time I ever sat with a cup of coffee, and for every reason, comes rushing back to me. Coffee for breakfast, late night at a dinner, at a friends house chatting hours away, for a hangover, for a bad day at work, after a good meal, on a road trip, in the cold in college with no sugar, at a family function with loved ones, . . the list goes on and on.
The moment I gaze into a cup of coffee I feel myself separate across time only to become larger than I was moments ago. The simplicity of coffee makes my life so much more diverse and amusing.

Or maybe I'm just simple and have a wild imagination. Regardless, coffee is like looking at a million photos at once.

"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you... It doesn't happen all at once. You become. It takes a long time. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."
